Animus Teaser
"Animus" is an upcoming H Universe story. Here is a teaser writing of the upcoming first episode of Animus which will be released later this week. Please enjoy!
Winter’s icy grip was finally starting thaw in the sleepy coastal town of Sullivan’s Cove that was tucked amongst on the beaches of sand turning to stone that are a common sight in New England. While the snow was melting into the shallow creeks that dribbled into the ocean, a cold rain hid the road from sight.
And then the hi-beams of a silver hybrid car illuminated the road as it sped amongst the forested coastline. The highway was just another fifteen minutes and then the driver would be free. Free from Sullivan’s Cove. Free from her. Free from everything.
“Go on. Do it. I dare you.”
“You can’t! Think about all that you still gotta do!”
“Don’t you get involved. What good have you done lately?”
“It isn’t our fault. Things change.”
“We could’ve have avoided this years ago, but no! You had to have that kid!”
“And aren’t we proud of her?!”
“We would if she called. But remember, she also hates us.”
“No she doesn’t.”
“No she doesn’t.”
The man shook his head, trying to keep the voices in his head quite as he remained focus on the road.
“Oh come on! Running away is such a cowards way. Stand and fight?”
“Or find another way of peace. Some time apart will be equally as good. We don’t want to make it worse.”
“Why not? They are terrible people. We don’t deserve them.”
“We can’t control people.”
“Hell! We are one to talk, we can barely control ourselves.”
“Shut up!” The man yelled to himself and hit the accelerator. The car started to speed on the wet road and with each slight turn, he could feel the jerking feeling that the car was losing traction.
“Careful.”
“Yeah, watch it buddy!”
“You don’t want---”
“---definitely not---”
“-------------no---”
“wait----”
“stop”
“...shhhhhhhhh.”
The man turned his gaze to the side of the road. The thick trunks of the trees started to not look so dark and cold. They were inviting.
Hell, even comforting.
“...shhhhhhhhh.”
With a jerk of the wheel, the man drove to the trees and with the hybrid’s engine now finally finding its voice over the rain.
That was a sickening crack of metal and wood fracturing against each other.
The sound faded and the rain continued to pour on the dark road while the shadows were quickly disturbed by the flashes of the lights.
“----we need to get help”
“Why? We are finally free.”
